Stephen King -- ever the
John D. MacDonald fan -- makes reference to his former friend in his
Entertainment Weekly article "My 2011 Pop Culture Favorites," published in this
week's issue. Number 10 on his list of 20 is Phillip Caputo's novel
Crossers.
In the NY Times Book Review for December 4, 2011, an article discusses books that authors like to reread. Stephen King has reread "...John D. MacDonald's 1960 thriller THE END OF THE NIGHT some half dozen times." King goes on to say "It's one of the greatest American novels of the 20th century. This is a novel Emile Zola would have relished."
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing that discovery, Walker. I'll be sure to use it when I get around to writing about that novel.
