Interesting in that it felt unfinished as I got near the end, because it was, but that ending was a bit un-Travis-like because he got taken unawares.

Also, I hadn't realized how close those first books were to WWII - and to the shady characters hiding from their former deeds.

And finally, the housekeeper felt 'odd' - too much of a switch for me. I kept thinking it would be difficult to hide who she was for so long, and to serve. It made me immediately think of YELLOW: its Chicago setting isn't nearly as interesting as the scenes in rural Illinois as McGee goes looking for the family of Saul Gorba.Steve Scotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15863138617383626261noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290476670691353414.post-78193902488047539242019-04-21T07:41:32.066-07:002019-04-21T07:41:32.066-07:00An extraordinary tale, wonderful research. MacDonald is best out in nature, more comfortable with life and himself.

I'm sad to be coming to the end of The Lonely Silver Rain and our Travis. I have been a fan for more than 50 years, and have read all of the Travis McGee novels. Until now, I always thought Travis was so natural he must have been effortlessly formed in JDM's imagination.D. It gives me even more respect for JDM's work ethic, and more insight into his success -- so rare! -- at making each new book better than the one before.Caristashttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14765197202482561634noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290476670691353414.post-72077832078945408882011-06-07T20:12:37.070-07:002011-06-07T20:12:37.070-07:00Thank you guys.
